Vector Text in 3D Space
Here is a test from a new class library i found, called FIVe3D. Its a very simple library that uses vectors to define text and shapes, and planar positioning. mmm…. i think the vector emphasis looks muy better than Papervision3d’s pixel emphasized surface mapping, which I’m assuming uses the built in drawing API. here’s an ex i made all in AS2.0 (FIVe3D uses as3.0 architecture from what I read though, ::confused::) Draggable manipulation coming soon!

Blood City Trailer
Amber, Devon, Pablo, Louis, and I were assigned a brief yesterday morning by the dd faculty to complete a trailer for a horror film called “Blood City”, and the goal was to scare the viewer’s wits out. We were given no assets to make the trailer, so we had to come up with everything ourselves. We were given 8 hours to complete the task and it was a competition that was assigned to all of the digital design program. Our trailer didn’t win, but it should have :-P. Anyways, here it is, hope you get scared beyond your wits.

My VFS Holiday Card
So I am trying to design a Holiday Card for VFS patrons and other industry peers. I am quite excited about this, because this gives me an opportunity to design something with print in mind. Learning things like bleed are new to me, and it will get me that much closer to designing my very own children’s book! w0ot.

Gearing up for a Keynote on David Byrne
So I decided to do my Contemporary Design presentation on David Byrne… and I spent all night last night learning Apple Keynote while actually writing my presentation. I have to say I think I went a little crazy on the assets. Alas. But despite the lack of sleep that went down last night, I am content with my presentation. Doing the presentation on David Byrne was a good choice, there is so much on him! I’m crossing my fingers that I don’t become narcoleptic when I have to speak. Wish me luck!
Video tribute to designer Paul Rand - video
Paul Rand left a huge mark on American graphic design thanks to his corporate logo designs you’ve all probably seen. It was only recently that the UPS logo was redesigned from his original look.
Here is a 4 minute Quicktime film tributing Paul’s work, a delicious animated journey through very familiar shapes and colors as Paul explains graphic design. In short, it looks really great.
Paul Rand was inducted to the One Show Creative Hall of Fame this week.

Papercraft Attains Kid Robot Status
I don’t think this company is actually affiliated with Kid Robot, but I am in love with these printable, free, amazing little DIY paper-craft characters. They’re called Readymechs, a little side-project developed by a U.S.-based design firm called FWIS and they succeeded to design my favorite papercraft dolls I’ve seen to date. I want to start printing these out asap.
