It’s the Experience That Counts

How to design a holistic consumer experience?

I came across this episode in which Peter Merholz of Adaptive Path discusses how focusing on consumers’ experience of new products and services through rapid prototyping and other means can inform and shape design. The article was featured on Businessweek. Its a great article for people who want to venture into the dark side of Branding. ENJOY….

I Am Not A Graphic Designer

I came across this article on blog.industrialbrand.com posted by Mark Busse (my mentor). Though the article is almost a year old but it still manages to make think if we are just draftsmen, color artist, desktop layout artist or something else that does not come even close to describing what we do. Why are we considered as computer guys and not considered in mainstream. I believe this is likely true for most of us in the communication design industry.I recommend this article to everyone and feel free post your comments.

Kids TV Ident

OK! i really didn’t have time for this assignment and its not an excuse. I finished it in 5 man hours including rendertime. I would have liked to spend a little more time texturing and character design, but i guess its for some other time. For now this is what i have got…. enjoy

Desktop Havoc on the Mac

A London design firm called Troika has produced video of an amazing computer “virus,” which may or may not be publicly available. It’s probably just a clever art project, but it’s too good not to mention here. Nonetheless, Troika’s Newton Virus is a Mac bug that rearranges the desktop icons using the accelerometers built into recent MacBooks. When the unsuspecting user picks up their laptop, all the icons and menu items fall to the ground as though under the influence of gravity. See it here:

Awareness Test

This ad isn’t something that hasn’t been done before, but is quite effective nonetheless. As design professionals, you’d think we’re either hyper aware, or so jaded we don’t see anything and this just reminded me that it’s always worth taking a deep look. It also reminds me of the video showing how even experienced advertising creatives can be manipulated using subliminal cues.

3D particle Test

This is a small exercise based of Particle Flow completed in 3ds max. The idea behind this is to animate the gradient ramp in the materials. If anyone wants to do the same there are plenty of tutorials based on the same on the internet and specially youtube.
