Blogs worth checking out

June 22nd, 2007

My blog is just one out of 22 created by students, many of which have never done any web design/authoring before, and there were some really great results. I spent today looking at all the sites created within the class, and I was really impressed with some of them, so I wanted to take a moment and share a few of them that I felt were really strong.

(In no particular order)

The first is by Jadyn. I really love the style of her site. It is a very clean and well rounded site, every aspect of it flows really well together. It really shows Jadyn’s skill as a designer, and stands out from all the other sites created within our class, creating a very distinct and likable feel.

Check out Jadyn’s site here.

The second belongs to Annie. This is a site that immediately catches your attention. The colour used is just beautiful, and really creates a nice flow through out the site. Annie has a really strong attention to detail, which makes this site a stand out.

Check out Annie’s site here.

The third on my list belongs to Ivan. Ivan has created a great feel in site, allowing the colour and texture to really be a dominate force, Ivan’s site is immediately appealing to the user. On top of that, he has gone with a interesting layout, and a great navigation system, that is simple, bold, yet very stylish.

Check out Ivan’s site here.

Thats my list of stand outs, sites that offered something extra in the design, but there are other solid designs as well, make sure to check out my blogroll for some more great sites!

That’s a Wrap

June 19th, 2007

Well with today the first term of school has officially come to an end. Overall I am pretty happy with the way things. I came up with some really solid work, even potential portfolio work, and stuff I am really proud of. And more importantly I learned some great new skills. Overall it was a solid step into the year.

Having said that, I am really excited to begin with the next phase of the program. I am really going to push myself in term 2, and create some more work to be proud of. I am going to push the boundaries of what has been done in the past, what is expected, and try to set a new bar.

Term 1 Coming to a close

June 15th, 2007

Well it’s crunch time. Only 5 days left this term, however the biggest projects are due this Monday, so you can bet it will be a long weekend. Lucky for me I took it of work. (That would be my other job)

You can bet I will post my major works here for all to see. Those major works consist of two video projects and this site. We have done other work through out this term as well, but not a lot to post on. I will post some images before too long on those works. Other projects were more conceptual, so there is not really anything to show, despite the fact that many many hours went into them.

Anyways look forward to them, I hope you enjoy the site!

note: Comments will be working by next Tuesday.

Another week gone by

May 23rd, 2007

The first two weeks are over now, and things are picking up rather nicely. The assignments are both challangeing and interesting. The User Experience is taking me out of my comfort zone a little bit by having us do iterviews with complete strangers, but I definatly see the value in gathering user information. After this stage of the project, it was very plain that observation is simply just not accurate enough.

Web Authoring is a interesting class. I have done a fair bit of HTML before, but CSS is all new to me. All I can say is WOW!, how did anyone ever manage without it! We are also designing the a new visual look for this blog. I am excitied for the project, but it really is a challange.

Here comes week 2

May 7th, 2007

Well the first week of school is over, overall it was pretty slow, mostly indroduction stuff. I am looking forward to next week where we will, hopefully, start a little more hands on work and less “I’m Tyler, from Canada, and I want too…” kind of stuff.

I am really looking forward to the Web Authoring work. Speaking of which, I had to laugh in class the other day, Brett had mentioned building websites in notepad, and something along the lines of it pretty much sucking, this just happens to be how I’ve been teaching my self the last few years, even building backend systems with PHP and MySQL, all through notepad. And in case you are wondering, yes it does suck compared to any alternative. To put it in perspective, it’s like doing photo editing in Microsoft paint instead of photoshop.

Anyways, Here’s to the start of a new week!

off the grid.
