BIGGIES
Joshin it out..
Thursday, 27th September
I worked all weekend at Vidfest (Digital festival) in Vancouver so I could go to the Joshua Davis workshop.
It was defiantly worth it. The guy has a quick tempo and works his way through the workshop fast and efficiently.
First off he took us through an hour presentation of his work and inspirations. He showed us the way he works and what he stands for as a designer. He is a humble and “not so commercial as you think guy”.
Throughout the workshop he showed us that it is not necessarily best to jump right into actionscript 3 as there is valuable code to be used from as1 and 2.
He is not just all about randomly produced graphics. He showed us how to use it to your advantage as a designer. You compose the way the randomness works and lay it all out how you want it. Then you control the variables and print it out into Illustrator to mess with the 8000 bigillions of layers. “Why is that there? should it be a pixel to the left?”
Josh showed us some sneaky little hacks from the adobe creative suite that you would never have thought of.
He is an inspiration to me and I really enjoy his work. Hence the header & footer of my blog.

Process your Inspiration
Friday, 3rd August
I arrive at the Digital Design campus at Vancouver Film School. I sit here in front the computer I work at about to start a solid working session. I must note that it is a Friday night of a long weekend. I feel that it is only necessary to start the evening with a bit of inspiration.
This post is about the process I am going to take to get me started on my night.
I start with turning on my ipod and the first song up is a tune from home (good ol NZ). Its NZ hip hop from a famous DJ back home. P-Money - 3,2,1. Its a good pump-start and the beat is getting me typing.
Next I think I need some some motion design to get some ideas flowing for my Blue screen motion design piece. A site that I have always liked is
The first post is about a motion designer, Christopher Abbey. I like his reel. It doesn’t look like anything too hard and I like the photo animation he has mixed into it. check it out at Crabbey
I look forward to the day where I have a nice reel where people look for inspiration from me.
Next up I’m gonna check out the FWA to get some flash inspiration for my interactive journalism piece that, Ivan and I are working on. Its a piece about the Basque region in Spain. We are focusing on the difference between the Basque people and the ETA group within it. They are both trying to get independence for the Basque region in Spain.
I click on a random site. Its an MTV site where you make a character and walk around in his room it seems. I feel like I should start doing some work and I could probably end up spending hours on this site. Its time I moved on.
Well I spent a good 20 mins writing this blog entry and I don’t know if I feel anymore inspired. I feel like working on my projects more than checking out more stuff. I think this is a good sign because it shows that I am very motivated to get cracking and get some work done.
I don’t think this was procrastination but more kind of necessary even if I don’t feel inspired. I need to keep looking around in order to see what is possible and how I can make my work better than what I see.
Its a long post.
Post me some links for your inspirations or processes you take to start your work.
